Two experiences from last week prompt this column. The first was a vigil at the Governor’s Mansion, protesting the state of Florida’s execution of John Richard Marek and remembering Adela Marie Simmons, the innocent victim for whose death John Marek was executed. My second experience was reading a story by an Associated Press writer about what Governor Crist did at the time of the execution, together with a follow-up column by Paul Flemming in the Tallahassee Democrat (”Death, politics mix with execution,” Aug. 21). On Thurs., Aug. 20th, at noon, please join us for the Service of Remembrance for John Marek and victim, Adella Simmons at the Rotunda at the Great Seal at the Capitol.

Governor Crist signed a death warrant for John Marek, WEDNESDAY
AUGUST 19TH, 6PM.(Marek received a stay May 13, 2009). Please
join others at the Governor’s Mansion 5:45 for a prayer vigil. August 20th there will be a commemorative service at the Great Seal, Florida Capitol
