More Death Warrants ….

September 23, 2006 on 1:30 pm | In Case news, Commentary, TCADP actions | No Comments |

Our Governor has signed two more death warrants, one for Danny Rolling and one for A. D. Rutherford. At the moment when Americans are having more and more doubts about the death penalty and when a task force of the American Bar Association has just issued a scathing critique of Florida’s administration of the death penalty, the timing of these warrants could hardly be less appropriate.

This is a time when we who oppose capital punishment need to be even more active. Visit our website (www.tcadp.net) and look for more e-mails about ways you can make your voice heard.

One way to express your opposition is to attend the events that TCADP sponsors when an execution takes place. Such events are more effective when more people are present. If stays are not granted, A. D. Rutherford is scheduled to be killed on Wednesday, October 18 and Danny Rollins on Wednesday, October 25. I hope you will put the following dates on your calendar and make your plans to attend. If you choose among the events, let me encourage you to attend the services of remembrance; attendance there is especially important because those services are more visible.
October 18, 6:00 p.m. — vigil at the Governor’s Mansion to protest all executions, including that of A. D. Rutherford.
October 19, noon — service of remembrance at the Capitol, to remember A. D. Rutherford and the victim of his crime, Stella Salamon.
October 25, 6:00 p.m. — vigil at the Governor’s Mansion to protest all executions, including that of Danny Rolling.
October 26, noon — service of remembrance at the Capitol to remember Danny Rolling and the victims of his crime: Sonya Larson, Christina Powell, Christa Hoyt, Manny Taboada, and Tracy Paules.

In the meantime we will maintain our hope and will do what we can to see that these sentences are not carried out.
